Product Showcase: LET INSPIRATION SET THE SCENE

You never know where inspiration will strike. This month’s showcase kitchen was inspired by Scandinavian design, which embraces graceful simplicity, neutral tones and a love of nature. Learn how Medallion’s new textured finishes and a new classic paint color worked together to create this calm and inviting, nature-inspired space.

She loves designing spaces that inspire designers to use our products in new ways.

A Rich, Dimensional Finish

Our new Cobblestone finish from the Stoney Brooke Collection was the perfect choice for the wall cabinets, island and wet bar area. The golden toffee undertone is enhanced by varying shades of hand-brushed accents which form a dimensional finish emulating weathered, timeworn wood we see in nature. The Cobblestone finish on the modern Bella door style allows the multilayered finish to take center stage.

For the tall cabinets and alcove bench seating, we chose Medallion’s Mission door style in our new Chai Latte classic paint. Chai Latte’s subtle, warm taupe hue is a perfect complement to the Cobblestone finish. By selecting this neutral paint color for the tall cabinets we reduce their bulky appearance. In choosing a similar wall color, we keep the focus on the Cobblestone finish and further enhance the relaxed atmosphere throughout the kitchen.

Style-Inspired Settings

This kitchen is designed in what I refer to as a detached layout inclusive of a European corner. Independent work zones are designed into each segment of the layout to allow for multiple helpers in the kitchen without the conflict of interruption. The work zone concept fits well in open floor plans and busy households adding ease to meal prep and cleanup, and is also well suited for entertaining guests in the same space.

Island and display cabinetry: To enhance the character of the hand-brushed detail of the Cobblestone finish, we chose an arrangement of all full-height base cabinetry for the island and wine bar. The island includes a trio of cabinets with open storage and narrow vertical reeded glass that complements the linear wood grain and finish.

TIP! Repetition of size is an aspect of good design. Don’t be afraid to break up a run by including an open cabinet. It adds dimension and interest. Note the upgrade to a 1 1/2″ profiled edge detail on the shelving for furniture-esque enhancement.

Demi-height tall cabinets: This configuration of cabinets embodies form and function by keeping bakeware and serving pieces within easy reach of the oven. We created specialized storage by adding tray dividers and roll-out trays.

Built-in bench seating: The alcove arrangement of bench seating creates a relaxed hub for family and friends. It’s a unique focal point that was constructed using single drawer cabinets, deluxe panels and matching wood tops for the seat. By placing the drawer units so they face out, frequently used items are easy to retrieve.

TIP! Designing to a client’s needs is an essential element that is difficult to price shop. Consider including a custom quote in your next design to showcase your distinct design talents.

TIP! Other room cabinetry is a fantastic addition, but not always something a client considers. Suggestions like a built-in bench are a great way to tell your client that you’re focused on their needs.

When designing the perfect space for your clients, getting to know their background, families and lifestyle all figure into the equation. Blending door styles and finishes and incorporating unique products are all part of the premium services you can offer, and Medallion can help inspire your clients as you create amazing spaces that truly awakens the senses.
