Designer Profiles: Claudia Pop
Built-in cabinetry in the same finish and door style throughout first floor gives the home an upscale aesthetic that’s also very functional.
"The client mentioned they were drawn to warmer tones and were looking for a specific green as an accent. I immediately thought of Medallion since you have a wide range of colors and finishes."
What inspired your design for this space?
The layout of this home’s first floor was very cramped and the homeowners wanted to open it up. We redesigned and remodeled the entire space, including the kitchen, bar, multiple areas for custom storage, the laundry room, bathroom, and living room. The new layout feels light and bright, especially with glass accent doors and decorative millwork throughout.

Did you encounter any design dilemmas?
As we were measuring, we realized that there was a depth difference where we were planning on having a row of pantries. We used a custom depth modification on one of the pantries so we could achieve a flushed exterior finish. The fact that the wall behind is not straight across is our little secret, there is no way to tell just by looking at the pantry!
What are some of the functional storage solutions you chose?
Every cabinet in this remodel has a purpose. We included roll-out cabinet drawers, spice racks and cookie sheet storage next to the range, cutlery drawers, and waste basket storage. We also added a wall of built-ins in the dining room for more cookware storage space.
Why did you choose Medallion Cabinetry for this job?
At the initial meeting, the client mentioned they were drawn to warmer tones and were looking for a specific green as an accent. I immediately thought of Medallion since you have a wide range of colors and finishes. Once the client saw the Seagrass finish from the Coastal Collection, we were locked in! It really complements the warm wood tones in the space. They also selected the Middleton door style, which is perfect for the home’s transitional style.
What is your favorite part of designing with Medallion?
Medallion is one of my go-to cabinetry brands when it comes to semi- or fully custom designs because of the variety of finishes, accessories, modifications, and the option for custom quotes. I often take advantage of the crossover doors between the Silverline and Gold product lines to give my clients more cost-effective options. There is a lot that you can do design-wise with Medallion!
Any advice for kitchen designers who are just getting started?
Take the time to listen to the client. Take note of their wants and needs, along with how they envision using the space. Provide design solutions based on these factors and remember that the new space(s) will impact their day-to-day life long after the project is finished! The result should reflect a successful partnership and collaboration with the homeowner, not just a beautiful design.
